Harriet Tubman National Historical Park preserves the Auburn, New York, places most closely tied to Tubman’s later life, especially her home, the Home for the Aged, and Thompson A.M.E. Zion Church. After moving to the Auburn area in 1859 from St. Catharines, Ontario, Tubman settled with help from the Seward family and spent her final decades devoted to family, faith, and care for others. She pursued her goal of creating a home for poor and elderly African Americans, which opened in 1908 under the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Tubman entered it in 1911 and lived there until her death in 1913. The area became a national historical park in 2017.
