Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park
Nature
Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park protects the largest remaining tract of Florida dry prairie, a landscape shaped by alternating flooding and fire beside the Kissimmee River within the Everglades watershed. Its open grassland supports rare, threatened, and endangered wildlife, including the Florida grasshopper sparrow, Audubon's caracara, and the Florida burrowing owl, and its broad horizon makes it popular for birdwatching and photography. The park is also renowned for unusually dark skies, with a Bortle 3 sky that allows views of the Milky Way and several Messier objects. Hiking, camping, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, and astronomy are among its major attractions.
