The first known school in Conecuh County, Students Retreat, stood near this site on land owned by John Green, who also served as the school’s first teacher. Green also represented the county in the state House of Representatives and in the 1861 Secession Convention, and he was elected to the 1875 Constitutional Convention at the age of 85.
