West Springfield residents served in Vietnam, and special recognition is given to those who lost their lives: Joel H. Chapin, Richard N. Gauthier, Daniel L. Grover, Raymond G. Masse, and Alan L. Matte. Henry H. Herrin, Jr., U.S. Navy PHCS E8, lived from Mar. 18, 1933 to May 24, 1973. Glen G. Simpson, a Corpsman in the U.S.N. in Vietnam, lived from Sept. 16, 1948 to Oct. 25, 1999.
