John Nance Garner lived in this house, owned by his parents, as a young lawyer from 1889 to 1892. He rose from Uvalde County Judge from 1893 to 1896, to the Texas Legislature from 1898 to 1902, to the U.S. Congress from 1904 to 1932, including a term as Speaker of the House of Representatives, and then served as Vice President of the United States from 1933 to 1941.
