Bull Sluice is a prominent rapid on the Chattooga River at the Georgia–South Carolina border and one of the best-known features of this river corridor. Widely recognized from the film Deliverance, it is easily reached from the U.S. 76 bridge and draws both spectators and paddlers. At normal flows of 1.8 to 2.4 feet, boaters regard it as a benchmark Class IV+ rapid, with difficulty dropping in low water and increasing as the river rises. It is the largest and last named rapid of Section 3 and often serves as the practical starting point for the more committing final stretch downstream. In summer, swimmers also gather in calmer water, on beaches below the rapid, and in a small cave beneath the main flow.
