Lee Meadows Swamp is a remnant wetland in northern New Jersey, spanning parts of Parsippany-Troy Hills and Hanover Township. Once about 500 acres, it was reduced by highway construction, road building, and office development, especially from the 1970s through the 1980s. Its origins reach back to the geologic formation of the Newark Basin and, more directly, to the draining of Glacial Lake Passaic after the last ice age, which left a chain of swamps behind the Watchung ridges. Fed by three small streams, the swamp once supported diverse wildlife and surrounding forests, and it reflects both ancient natural forces and modern suburban transformation.
