I Am Steam Locomotive No. 385
Troy Hills, New Jersey
Transportation
Steam Locomotive No. 385 was built in Philadelphia, PA in November 1907 and spanned a remarkable era of American history. When it was new, some of the older men who worked with it had been young soldiers during the American Civil War. It was still young when the Titanic sank, and over its lifetime it saw the birth of 10 American Presidents, the Great Depression of the 1930’s, and two World Wars in the 20th Century. During wartime it moved troops, weapons, and supplies, and it also carried leaders traveling to deliver historic speeches. In its 62nd year, it was in service when man walked the moon.
