Henry Rhoads, Jr. built this house about 1792. Before moving to Kentucky, he served as a captain in the Pennsylvania militia during the Revolutionary War under Gen. John Muhlenberg and was a delegate to Pennsylvania's 1776 state constitutional convention. In 1785, he led settlers from Pennsylvania to the Green River area of Kentucky and laid out the town of Rhoadsville, now called Calhoun. As a member of the Kentucky state legislature and the county's first state legislator from 1798 to 1800, he proposed that the newly formed county be named Muhlenberg for his beloved commander, John Muhlenberg.
