The Milltown Air Line Locomotive
Industry
George Gress built the Milltown Air Line Railroad about 1903 to haul lumber from his sawmill to the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad at Naylor. Barney & Smith Car Company bought the lumber mill and railroad in 1905. J.A.J. Henderson bought the property in 1917, but the huge mill burned the next year. In 1925 R.E. Carter, Sr., owned the railroad. Depicted with him (left) are agent Charlie Bradford, engineer Charlie Craven, and fireman R.D. Hutto. The City of Lakeland bought the railroad in 1927 and replaced this locomotive with the "485".
