Robert Philson was active in the Whiskey Rebellion and was arrested during it in 1794. He became a member of the PA. Assembly in 1798, was commissioned associate judge of Somerset Co. in 1800 and served twenty years, was commissioned brigadier general of PA. militia on May 9, 1800, served in the War of 1812, and was elected to U.S. Congress in 1819.
