Mountain of Mystery is a 6,565-foot Navajo Sandstone summit in Zion National Park, rising more than 2,100 feet above Zion Canyon, The Narrows, and the North Fork Virgin River. Set between Orderville Canyon and Mystery Canyon and surrounded by landmarks such as Observation Point, Cable Mountain, Angels Landing, and Mount Majestic, it stands in the center of Zion’s famed sandstone scenery. Its name was officially adopted in 1934 by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names. Although prominent, its first recorded ascent by the Northeast Buttress came only on 15 September 2001. The mountain lies in a cold semi-arid climate with under 10 inches of annual rainfall and light winter snowfall.
