Frogmore Mound Site in Concordia Parish, Louisiana, is a Late Coles Creek mound-and-village site in a wetlands landscape near former channels of the Mississippi and Tensas rivers. It includes a single rectangular platform mound and a village area with middens, with the buried midden on the mound’s north side. Excavation found the mound was built in two closely spaced stages over an earlier double-walled circular ceremonial building that had been burned and covered with earth. Dating evidence places the site in the Late Coles Creek period, more specifically around AD 900 to 1050. Its setting in a river-shaped backswamp landscape likely influenced both its placement and eventual abandonment.
