Jordan Hot Springs is a thermal spring system in California’s Golden Trout Wilderness with at least fourteen outlets feeding primitive soaking pools as the water cools on its way toward Nine Mile Creek. Local Indigenous people used the springs and surrounding country for centuries as a summer encampment long before European settlement. In 1861, John Jordan blazed a route to the springs and sought to build the Jordan Trail, though he died the following year in the Kern River. Ruins of later cabins, a logging camp, and an abandoned early-20th-century resort remain nearby, reflecting the site’s layered human history. In 1992, it received National Historic Landmark status.
