Near Morgan's Corner in North Carolina, the Newland Road Site, also called the Nine Foot Brick Road, preserves two surviving sections of a brick highway built in 1921 and 1922. Laid out nine feet wide, the road remains a tangible example of early twentieth-century road construction and an important part of the region's transportation history. Its significance was formally recognized when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
