Warner Valley Ranger Station, in the southern part of Lassen Volcanic National Park on the road to Drakesbad Guest Ranch, is one of the park’s earliest National Park Service buildings. Built in 1926 and substantially rebuilt in 1927 after heavy snow caused it to fail, it is notable for an unusual construction method that makes it resemble a log cabin while using stacked milled 2-by-6 lumber. The one-and-a-half-story station is the only known building of this type in the western National Park Service system. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, it is valued for both its rarity and its adaptation to a harsh mountain environment.
