Pretend City Children’s Museum in Irvine, California, is a nonprofit museum built as a small, interconnected city scaled for young children, where 17 interactive spaces encourage learning through play in everyday civic and neighborhood settings. Established by Alexandra Airth and Sandra Peffer, it grew from the mobile Pretend City on Wheels program launched in 2007. The museum also connects its play-based approach to family and community support through classes, field trips, and resources, and in 2009 began promoting developmental screenings for young children. A 2010 grant helped expand autism-related programming, and after COVID-19 safety changes, it reopened in 2021.
