The North Cascades inspired Senator Henry M. Jackson from boyhood through later returns, when he praised its towering peaks, glaciers, alpine scenery, and unmatched natural beauty in the United States, and took pride in the decision to protect its wild character for future generations. In 1987, the North Cascades National Park, Washington, was dedicated to Senator Henry M. Jackson in recognition of his leadership in establishing the North Cascades National Park System, the National Wilderness Preservation System, and in protecting and preserving great natural resources for the benefit of the people of the United States for all time.
