Adams Station was a passenger waiting station on the electric streetcar Pittsburgh & Butler Street Railway, also known as the Butler Short Line. In the early twentieth century, around 1907, Mars was served by two parallel railroads: one on the line where the existing railroad still operates and another that ran through Mars on Clay Avenue. The Clay Avenue Railroad operated from 1907 to 1931, serving farmers, businesses, and the general population from Pittsburgh to Butler. A similar electric streetcar railroad, the Harmony Short Line, ran from Pittsburgh to Evans City and on to New Castle, passing through the Cranberry area about 10 miles west of Mars. These railroads used electrically powered rail cars that received power from overhead wires. Adams Station originally stood a few miles north of its present site before the Mars Historical Society acquired it from a farmer who had been using it as a storage shed and restored it to its original condition.
