Established in 1854 in what was then unsettled Central Texas, the Joseph M. and Sarah Pound Farmstead became one of the foundations of the community that grew into Dripping Springs. Its original dog-trot log cabin, the oldest surviving building in town, served not only as the Pound family home but also as Hays County’s earliest doctor’s office and hospital under Dr. Pound. It also functioned as a church, schoolhouse, post office, and gathering place for the young settlement. Occupied by four generations of the family until 1983, the farmstead remains a rare surviving link to the area’s earliest Anglo community life.
