From about 1835 to 1900, members of the Coushatta Tribe inhabited this village. Most had small farms, and after their crops were harvested they also worked for wages. Burial pits excavated by archeologists in 1968 revealed skeletal remains, ironstone dishes, glass beads obtained in trade with Anglos, and ornaments made from silver coins.
