Duplin County honored the memory of its sons who gave their lives in World War II by recording the names of local dead from communities across the county, along with their military branches, ranks, hometowns, and dates of birth and death, spanning service in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army Air Forces, and N.C. Civil Air Patrol during the war years 1941-1945 and into 1946. The record is accompanied by the words, “They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.”
