1
Scatterville was an early settlement on the military road connecting Chalk Bluff and Gainesville, and it is said to have acquired its name because stores and houses were scattered about over the area. Civil War skirmishes were fought here on August 3, 1862, and March 28, 1863. Its cemetery is the burial place of many of the pioneers of Clay County.
