The Paragould meteorite, a large stony chondrite, fell near Paragould, Arkansas, at about 4:08 a.m. on February 17, 1930. Measuring 41 by 24 by 16 inches and weighing 370 kilograms, it is the largest stony meteorite chondrite and the second largest witnessed meteorite fall recovered in North America. Its fireball was seen across several states, and some mistook it for an aircraft crash. The meteorite shattered on impact, with major fragments recovered near Paragould and Finch. The main mass was later acquired by Harvey H. Nininger, sold to Chicago's Field Museum, and since 1988 has been on loan to the University of Arkansas.
