On Aug. 30, 1864, Davis’ 14th A. C. [US], after moving from Red Oak to Shoal Creek Ch., divided into two columns for the march to the Fayetteville Rd. (Highway 139). Morgan’s and Carlin’s divs. went southeast by a winding road to the Evans farm below Riverdale. Baird’s div. moved northeast from Shoal Creek Ch. along the Flat Shoals Rd., and at this crossroads the southeastward march of Wood’s and Kimball’s divs. of the 4th A. C. from the Marcus Long house was halted until Baird could turn southward. Baird’s div. then aligned on the Fayetteville Rd. from here south to Couch’s at Riverdale, where it rejoined Morgan and Carlin at Evans’ farm.
