Mark "Tarder" Unverferth was an active member of the Kalida community, Saint Michael Catholic Church, and a founding member of the Kalida Area Chamber of Commerce. He was dedicated to beautifying the community and preserving its history, and he promoted many projects throughout the Village of Kalida, including the Chamber's Adopt-A-Tree program while serving as Chamber president. Because of his vision for the village, the Chamber commissioned a Master Plan in 2010 to develop and beautify various areas of Kalida, especially the Town Square area. Pioneer Park, built in 2015, resulted from this Master Plan, and the Kalida community recognizes Unverferth for his dedication to improving the community.
