Tu-Endie-Wei State Park stands in downtown Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where the Kanawha and Ohio rivers meet, its Wyandot name meaning “the point between two waters.” The site preserves the ground of the Battle of Point Pleasant, fought on October 10, 1774, between Virginia settler militia and the forces of Shawnee Chief Cornstalk. The settlers’ victory weakened cooperation between Native forces and the British and helped open the way for men from western Virginia to cross the Allegheny Mountains and later join the American Revolutionary War. The park also includes the 1796 Mansion House, an early tavern that survives as a historic house museum.
