Keigh-tugh-qua, better known to early settlers and frontiersmen as Cornstalk, was a Shawnee chief and head of the Northwestern Confederated Tribes who was well known and respected by white settlers and Indian tribes of the Ohio Valley. He decided to make peace with the white man, but was forced to lead the attack on the "Long Knives" at the Battle of Point Pleasant on October 10, 1774. Although he survived the battle, he died just three years later.
