Union Station was built in 1912 by the Adam Groth Co. and designed by architect Jarvis Hunt. The Bedford limestone station, which cost $250,000 to construct, accompanied the elevation of the rail lines in Joliet City Center, a project that gained national attention. The structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
