Built in 1929 by Marion industrialist C.C. Lincoln and his sons John D. and C.C. Jr., the Lincoln Theatre became known as "the finest showplace in southwest Virginia." Its interior, designed to suggest a Mayan temple, is the only surviving example of Mayan Revival style in the eastern United States. Murals depicting American and local history line the auditorium. Vaudeville, country music, and Hollywood stars have graced the stage there. Renovations in 2003 reopened the Lincoln as a motion picture and performing arts theatre.
