Richard Caputo was the only resident of Rocky Hill to be killed in action during the Vietnam War. Drafted into the Army, he attained the rank of Private First Class and served as an Armor Reconnaissance Specialist. He began his tour of duty on July 11, 1968, and was killed on September 22, 1968, as a result of small arms fire in Hua Nghia, South Vietnam, at the age of twenty. He is remembered on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Panel 43W-Row 061.
