Moose Point State Park in Searsport, Maine, occupies a scenic point above Penobscot Bay near the Belfast town line, valued for broad coastal views, wooded shoreline, tidal pools, trails, and picnic areas. Before becoming a public recreation area, the land was a dairy farm established by the Carver family in 1859. At its peak, the 186-acre farm included a house, barn, two silos, and sixty head of cattle. Most of the farm buildings were destroyed by fire in 1927. In 1952, descendants of Captain George A. Carver offered the land to the State of Maine, and the park opened in 1963.
