Hubbard County was created in 1883 by legislators and named after then Governor Lucian Hubbard. County officials commissioned prominent architect Milton E. Beebe to design a new courthouse, resulting in a Neoclassical style, 2-story red brick building that served as the Hubbard County Courthouse from 1900-1975.
