Devils Backbone Wilderness is a federally protected wilderness area in the Mark Twain National Forest in southern Missouri's Ozarks, near Willow Springs in northeastern Ozark County. Managed by the United States Forest Service, it spans 6,687 acres and became one of Missouri's eight federal wilderness areas in 1980. Its name comes from a prominent central ridge rising to about 1,020 feet in a landscape noted for being somewhat flatter than much of the Ozarks. The area is known for seasonal wildflowers and fall color, abundant wildlife on limestone glades, and the waters of Blue, Amber, and McGarr springs feeding the North Fork River, which supports canoeing and fishing.
