Confederate soldiers from Newberry District, South Carolina, who fought and died in the Southern Confederacy were honored as sacred dead by their living comrades and those who loved them, with the memorial preserving the names of officers and enlisted men from captains and lieutenants to sergeants, corporals, colonels, lieutenant colonels, and many other soldiers from the district.
