The 305th Airdrome Squadron was organized at Dalhart Army Air Base in April 1943 and served in World War II at Dalhart, New Guinea, Leyte in the Philippine Islands, Okinawa, and Irumagawa, Japan. It honors the squadron's first commander, Major Frank H. Blakey, who was killed in New Guinea in June 1944, and its last commander, 1st Lt. Joel D. Burt.
