Around 1915, Amiel Samson constructed a building to house his grocery store and the First National Bank, with his family living on the second floor in large rooms beneath a hall skylight. The grocery occupied the right, south section of the main floor, while the bank, later called Central National Bank, occupied the left side. In 1955, the Sharon Springs Post Office moved into the former store space from across the street, and postal clerk George Jackson moved his family upstairs. After the bank and post office built a new building at Main Street and Route 20 in 1989, the Samson Block was donated to the Rural Preservation Compats. Following nearly ten years of vacancy, it was sold in 1997 and restored into two shop fronts and three upstairs apartments by Chris and Patricia Eaves and Todd and Louise Spofford, who also bought and renovated the adjacent house to the south in 1998. Built around 1840, that house appeared on the village's 1856 map as the property of Dr. Green, was later run as a boarding house by the Grosmayer family from 1870 to 1925, and became known for its teas and gardens. In the latter half of the 20th century, the Fuchs family owned it as the Monticelio Cottages. The Greek Revival house retains an elliptical Federal Fan motif in the center front gable, a design commonly found in this part of New York.
