Historic Kirtland Village in Kirtland, Ohio, preserves and reconstructs buildings associated with the early Latter Day Saint movement as a walkable museum district. Owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it combines restored original structures, including the Newel K. Whitney Store, Newel K. Whitney Home, and Joseph Smith Home, with rebuilt sites such as the John Johnson Inn, a schoolhouse, sawmill, and ashery. Developed in stages from the late 1970s and dedicated in 2003, the village continues to grow, including the restored Joseph and Emma Smith home, helping present Kirtland’s wider significance in early church history.
