Marquette Mountain, near Marquette Bay on Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, has long served as an accessible winter sports center close to the region’s main city. Opened in late 1957 as Cliffs Ridge on land leased from the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company, it gained early popularity and later took its current name in 1982. Though modest in size, the area’s 1,257-foot elevation, 457-foot vertical drop, and heavy lake-effect snowfall have made it well suited to skiing. Over time it evolved from early T-bars and rope tows into a broader recreation area with chairlifts, night skiing, and expanding warm-weather uses including mountain biking.
