Fifield Fire Lookout Tower stands in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest at Fifield, Wisconsin, as a surviving example of the era when lookout towers played an important role in protecting northern Wisconsin’s forests from fire. Built for forest fire detection, it was constructed and first operated by the Wisconsin Conservation Commission. Control passed to the United States Forest Service in 1935, and the agency continued using the tower until 1973. Its long service life and significance in forest protection were later recognized when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
