The Palmetto Trail is a long-distance recreational route in South Carolina intended to span about 500 miles from the mountains of Oconee County to the Intracoastal Waterway in Charleston County. Designed for hiking and mountain biking, with some sections open to equestrian use, it currently includes 26 segments totaling about 350 miles. The trail is sponsored by the Palmetto Conservation Foundation in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, with support from the South Carolina General Assembly. Its construction has depended on volunteer groups, land managers, Santee Cooper, the South Carolina National Guard, and other partners.
