The last section of a continuous inside passage along the eastern coast of the United States was begun on December 19, 1932, and completed on April 3, 1936. The work involved the United States Corps of Engineers under Colonel W.G. Caples, U.S.A., and Standard Dredging Co. as contractor, with T.P. Pearson as superintendent.
