British supply ships regularly carried materials to Great Lakes bases by way of the St. Lawrence River. An American raiding party intercepted one such shipment and hid in the upper reaches of Cranberry Creek. Although the Americans drove back a British search party, some of the Americans were killed and buried at this site, where their sacrifice is still honored.
