West Rigolets Light stood at the west end of the Rigolets, guiding navigation where the channel met Lake Pontchartrain and complementing East Rigolets Light at the passage’s opposite end. Built in 1855 as one of four similar Lake Pontchartrain lights, it had a square keeper’s house with a lantern at the roof peak. Extinguished at the start of the Civil War, it was relit in November 1862 after Union control returned; two days later keeper Thomas Harrison was found shot to death. Renovated in 1863 and repeatedly repaired after storm damage, it was eventually replaced by an automated light, then destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
