The original Division Street Bridge was built in 1926 as part of Route 4. On November 11, 1926, the alignment of Route 4 through Pontiac became US Route 66. In the early days, highways were marked with paint using a stencil on utility poles and on bridge end posts, and a 1926 stencilized image on this bridge somehow survived, a very rare occurrence. In 2005, Livingston County rebuilt the bridge, preserved and reattached the original end posts, and duplicated the railing style. Saving and reusing the end posts of a bridge had never been done before. In 2007, the stencilized image was restored to its original 1926 appearance.
