Thomas and Mary Bay settled here in 1850 and, with other area pioneers, established a community centered on a building used as a church and school. The Bay family also deeded this property for use as a community cemetery. The earliest known burial is that of Mary Francis Williamson in 1852. Others buried here include community leaders and veterans of conflicts dating to the War of 1812. Features of the cemetery include vertical stones, curbing, interior fencing, and Woodmen of the World monuments. Today, a cemetery association cares for the historic burial ground.
