Authorized in 1692 by the Maryland Assembly, the first All Saints Church, a log church, was built near this site at the crossroads of the Severn Ridge Path and the road leading to Coxtown on land donated by early French Huguenot settler Thomas Hilleary (Hilliere). Later, in 1696, Thomas Hilleary became High Sheriff of Prince Georges County, which had been formed in 1695 out of upper Calvert County.
