In 2019, Floyd County marked its 200th birthday with a project in which 20 bison statues were given to art teachers at New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation elementary schools to be decorated with students. Teachers and students at each school produced two unique designs, some chosen to align with school art curriculums and others to highlight important aspects of the county's history. Designs included Sherman Minton Birthplace and Bridge, created by students at Grant Line Elementary School and designed by Felice Pierce, and Steamboats and Shipyards, created by students at Green Valley Elementary School and designed by Karly Happel. Members of the colorful herd were placed around Floyd County, with Bicentennial Bison displayed at nine other local landmarks.
