Daisy L. Bates was a journalist, publisher, author, and American civil rights leader. As president of the Arkansas NAACP, she played an important role in the Little Rock integration crisis of 1957. She said, "No man or woman who tries to pursue an ideal in his or her own way i[s] without enemies."
