Ambrose A. Call State Park in Kossuth County, Iowa, is a 138-acre public recreation area on the East Fork of the Des Moines River that preserves rugged hills and old-growth forest while reflecting local settlement history. On July 9, 1854, Ambrose A. Call and his brother Asa claimed the future park site, and Ambrose soon began building a log cabin there with William Smith. In 1925, Call’s daughter donated the land to Iowa for a public park. A relocated cabin marks the pioneer association, and a log cabin-style lodge built in 1928 by the Works Progress Administration remains in use alongside trails, camping, disc golf, and winter skiing.
